Whether you just were diagnosed with cancer, currently undergoing treatment or are in remission you want to make sure you are doing everything you can do to make your body less conducive to cancer growth or recurrence.
If cancer was a simple disease which could be cured with 100% effectiveness and no side effects you would not need to know anything else except “what treatment do I need?”
Cancer Is A Chameleon:
Unfortunately, we now know that the vast majority of cancers are not curable with a single ‘silver bullet‘ treatment.
In fact, almost all cancers are comprised of numerous populations of genetically different cancer cells and each unique population requires a different type of treatment to make sure every last cancer cell is killed.
The Good News:
Although there are literally billions of cells within every cancer, our current treatments (i.e. surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy) are able to kill many of them making tumors smaller, dropping tumor markers and hopefully sending our patients into remission. Furthermore, not a day goes by when we don’t hear about a new ‘state of the art’ cancer therapy that promises to extend life and revolutionize the way we treat a particular cancer.
The Bad News:
The reality is not so bright. Even if treatment is able to kill off 99.99999% of all cancer cells it only takes one resistant cell (that 0.00001%) to survive and you are at risk of a recurrence.
It’s a fact that most cancer treatments are far less than 99.99999% effective and although they do improve outcomes, for too many patients they may only do so for a period of time (i.e. weeks to months) before the cancer figures a way around it and starts to grow again. The other cancer cells that aren’t killed may remain in a ‘sleep-like’ (dormant) state waiting for a signal (i.e. hormonal or genetic changes resulting from an unhealthy diet, chronic stress, toxins, systemic inflammation, depressed immune system, free radical oxidation, etc.) to tell them to ‘wake up’ and divide.
- How effective is chemotherapy in killing every last cancer cell? An eye-opening paper, published in 2004, found that for many cancers chemotherapy only improved survival outcomes by 2%.
This cartoon explains some of the reasons why cancer is so hard to beat:
What Is The Solution?
There is no ONE solution.
You have to attack the cancer from EVERY known front using a combination of the most effective conventional oncologic treatments in addition to numerous evidence-informed, anticancer lifestyle changes that alter the biology of your tissues making them less supportive of cancer growth (i.e. reducing systemic inflammation, free radical oxidation, toxic and carcinogenic exposures while supporting your immune system and detoxification pathways, etc.)
Your oncologist likely knows their aspect of treatment very well, but when was the last time they sat you down for 1-3 hours and taught you about all the things YOU CAN DO to anticancerize yourself? I’m sure that for most of you the answer is NEVER, but you really can’t blame them. Most oncologists don’t have the time in their busy clinic schedule, they don’t get reimbursed for spending extra time with you and the majority of them don’t know that much about anticancerizing aside from using conventional treatments (which in itself takes years to learn and is a never ending process of staying up to date.)
It is true that you can learn these things on your own, but with the enormous amount of information available to you on the internet and in books you can easily spend months-to-years getting a basic understanding of how to anticancerize yourself. That doesn’t even factor into account that science of anticancerizing is evolving all the time.
To solve this problem for my patients and you I created the IOE PREMIUM PROGRAM
Since January 1, 2009 we have helped educate over 250,000 individuals on the details of the anticancer lifestyle and evidence-informed integrative cancer care.
